Please describe your app.
AAAny is a platform designed specifically for AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions, which we call AAA (Ask Anyone Anything). AAA represents a unique communication style that warrants specific presentation and interactive features. AAAny caters to this need with features like Host-centered displays, Thread Organization for dialogues, and a user-friendly Host Mode for responses.
Our aim is to evolve the AMA concept from “Ask Me Anything” to “Ask Anyone Anything”, facilitating enhanced online communication.
Was there a pivotal moment that inspired your app’s creation?
Many of our team members are fervent AMA participants and regulars on various Q&A platforms. We realized there was a niche for a product exclusively focused on AMAs. Seeing none, we decided to create one ourselves.
What makes your app unique compared to others in the market?
Unlike traditional forums where discussions are built layer by layer, AMA is fundamentally about one person or a small group engaging with a wider audience. This requires a different approach. For instance, the AMA host, or “Host,” plays a more pivotal role in our app. AAAny is thus optimized to support this unique structure.
However, the bigger challenge has been the general misunderstanding of AMAs. Consider the overwhelming comment threads on Reddit, tedious Spaces sessions, or cumbersome AMAs on platforms like Discord and WeChat. Despite its popularity, the AMA format has seldom been given its due.
How have you marketed your app, and what key lessons have you learned?
Our main approach has been word-of-mouth within friend circles. A significant insight was the low traffic conversion rate from X (Twitter), making personal networks more effective. However, we recognize the need to extend beyond just friend circles and are exploring better promotional strategies.
What has been some memorable feedback since your app’s release?
One surprising discovery is the joy users find in answering questions, even to the point of addiction. This was unexpected.
I always knew answering questions could be enjoyable, perhaps because I frequently engaged in it pre-AAAny. However, I hadn’t anticipated the impact of this experience on newcomers. If AAAny can continually harness this joy, it might encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences by those newly discovering the pleasure of responding to queries. This aspect of joy is something we aim to focus on enhancing.
Are there any products out there that you feel deserve more recognition?
I’m particularly fond of Fog of World, an app that reveals parts of the Earth as you explore them. Its ultimate achievement, “King of the World,” requires exploring just 1% of the Earth — a challenging yet intriguing goal. It’s a constant reminder of the vastness of our world. Whenever I step outside, I make sure to use this app.
Tell us a bit about yourself and what you envision for the future.
I’m Adam Wang, the host of the LateTalk podcast, with a background in entrepreneurship. My personal journey is publicly accessible and easily searchable online. I’m active on platforms like X and my Newsletter, “PicaPica.” In the foreseeable future, my primary focus will be on AAAny, and you can check out my own AAA sessions on the app.
